Our Story

OUR MISSION

We celebrate the Berkshires and surrounding communities in a new light. We are storytellers and seek to inspire and enhance the rural experience and promote businesses in the area.

The Berkshire Tri-State region is famous for its breathtaking beauty that over the years has inspired a tradition of gracious living. This distinctive style is reflected in how we live our lives, how we appreciate nature and the arts, how we prepare beautiful meals and how we enjoy fine craftsmanship and design.

BerkshireStyle is an online magazine that celebrates this richness and vitality of its architects, designers, artists and businesses who have made their mark preserving the Berkshire aesthetic. The pages of Berkshire Style hold a wealth of local information inviting us all to play an active role in this beautiful community.

OUR STORY

When I moved to Sharon CT from New York in 1998, it took me a very long time to get to know the area, to figure out where to shop, dine and play in the tristate area. What I needed most was a ‘best friend’ to advise me on where to go and how to get around. I felt a distinct need for this type of resource.

In 2010, with the help of my dear friend Paul Coughlin, we decided to create a website to address this lack. As we designed the site together, I began to visit thirty-two towns, their businesses, their attractions, libraries etc. I curated the site with one bar in mind, would I take my mother to eat, shop or visit here.

When Paul and I had created a prototype, I went to visit Bunny Williams whom we both agreed to be the taste arbitrator of the region. She was extremely supportive and suggested we move forward with the project. Her one word of advice was this; you are selling your taste on this website. Do NOT list any property you have not visited. Great advice and one I have adopted as gospel.

BerkshireStyle LLC launched in March 2012 and the rest is history.

I am extremely proud of this publication. It is a regional resource and also an online magazine with several features published weekly. The layout is tasteful, unique on the internet these days. We have a loyal base of supporters. Visits and engagements increase each year.

BerkshireStyle holds a valued place in the community. It is the only resource of curated businesses, cross referenced by town and category.

I hope you enjoy our new and improved site which you can now access on your mobile phone. I look forward to hearing from you - your thoughts, questions or suggestions. I can be reached at the following address: ttucker@berkshirestyle.com and look forward to hearing from you.
