Kestrels, Owls and Migratory Birds

The Hop Brook Club of Tyringham will present a free program, “Kestrels, Owls and Migratory Birds in the Berkshires,” Saturday, May 11th, at 5PM in the Tyringham Town Hall, 16 Main Road. The presenter will be Ben Nickley, founder and executive director of the of Berkshire Bird Observatory.

The Berkshire Bird Observatory started operations in 2022. Nickley will discuss its origins, aims, current research projects and future endeavors. Green Berkshires is the parent organization to the Berkshire Bird Observatory with BBO contributing data to Green Berkshires’ four-year South Taconic biodiversity mapping project.

Nickley is a researcher with a passion for birds and the natural landscapes they inhabit. Over the past several years he has traveled across North America to do field studies in many exceptional places.

Donations are welcome for the Hop Brook Community Scholarship Fund.

In addition to the May 11th talk, Nickley will present Birding Basics a six-week course at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Berkshire Community College Tuesday, 8-9:30AM at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington MA. The in-person class is limited to 20 persons. It is recommended that participants have good quality 8x42 or 10x42 binoculars and the Sibley Field Guide to Birds.
