Helping Neighbors

COVID-19 has brought out the best and worst in humanity. Happily, in the Northwest Corner we have been privy to some of the finer behavior, an unselfish giving of manhours and materiel as neighbors reached out to help neighbors.

This spring respected documentary filmmaker Anne Makepeace of Lakeville trained her lens on local heroes, those men and women who ventured out of their homes to help ensure the wellbeing of others during the height of Connecticut’s battle against an invisible enemy. Her film, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, honors volunteer first responders and those who bravely carried on in their professions—teachers, electricians, plumbers, insurance salesmen, doctors, and landscapers.

The resulting short film will screen for the public Sunday, July 12th, on an outdoor screen at Sharon Playhouse, 49 Amenia Road in Sharon. Audio will be broadcast over Robin Hood Radio 91.9FM or 1020AM.

Admission is limited to one car per family with a maximum of 55 cars in the parking lot. Those attending should arrive at 8PM to allow time for a health check and parking. Masks much be worn when patrons are outside their cars.

There will be an introduction and screening beginning at 8:30PM. Following the 15-minute film there will be a Q&A with volunteer first responders and Makepeace. There will be a cash bar with wine, beer, soda, water and snacks.

Although the event is free, it is by reservation only. Please register soon as space is limited.
