DWIGHT GARNER: THE UPSTAIRS DELICATESSEN
IN PERSON
July 12th, Friday, 5PM - 6PM
Critic and author Dwight Garner will be joining author André Bernard, Vice President of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, as part of The Mount's 2024 Masters Series. Dwight Garner is the senior book critic for The New York Times, whose now famed (and sometimes feared) reviews appear weekly. In addition to his journalism, Garner is the author of The Upstairs Delicatessen: a story that serves up the intertwined pleasures of books and food. The product of a lifetime of obsessively reading, eating and every combination therein, The Upstairs Delicatessen is a charming, emotional memoir in which he records the voices of great writers and the stories from his life that fill his mind as he moves through the sections of the day and of this book: breakfast, lunch, shopping, the occasional nap, drinking and dinner. Make sure to take a look at the other authors that will be participating in the Masters series as there are many exciting voices to come. $25 - $30 Adults, Free for students and youth 18 & under.
The Mount. 2 Plunkett Street. Lenox MA. 413. 551.5111.

TANGLEWOOD MUSIC CENTER FELLOWS: ABRAHAM LINCOLN WALKS AT MIDNIGHT
IN PERSON
July 17th, Wednesday, 5:30PM - 6:30PM
Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight is a chamber cantata based on a 1914 poem by American poet Vachel Lindsay. It portrays Abraham Lincoln walking the streets of Springfield, Illinois, stirred from his eternal sleep--a man who, even in death, is burdened by the tragedies of the modern world.  The poem was set to music in 1953 by American composer Roy Ellsworth Harris (1898 – 1979) who wrote music on many American subjects, and is best known for his Symphony No. 3. The Tanglewood Music Center Fellows will be on-site at Chesterwood - the site where the most iconic statue of Lincoln was sculpted by Daniel Chester French. Suggested donation $10.
Chesterwood. 4 Williamsville Road. Stockbridge MA. 413.298.3579.
