All Things Maple

Litchfield County producers will celebrate all things maple on the upcoming Maple Weekend March 21 and 22 with hours varying for different sugarhouses. Tour local sugarhouses and learn the process of transforming a colorless sap into the most delectable of condiments.

Maple syrup was cultivated by Native Americans in Connecticut as far back as the 1600s, becoming the New World’s first natural sweetener. Still-freezing nights and warmer, sunny days towards the end of March create the ideal conditions for robust maple syrup yields.

Litchfield County producers include the Kasulaitis Farm and Sugarhouse, 69 Goose Green Road in Burlington, 860-874-4220; LaMothe’s Sugar House, 89 Stone Road, Burlington, 860-874-4220, noon to 5PM Saturday and Sunday; Ridgeway Farm, 142 Town Street, West Cornwall, 860-672-5288, noon to 5PM, and Great Mountain Forest Sugarhouse, 201 Windrow Road, Norfolk, 860 824-8188, 10 AM to 2PM Sunday.
