Tanglewood in the City

One of the magic moments of any summer is to sit in the gloaming on the glorious grounds of Tanglewood, glass of wine in hand and picnic basket by your side while the sounds of The Boston Symphony Orchestra envelop you.

This year, those who cannot make it to Tanglewood itself can still experience that mixture of nature and nurture when the July 19 concert is broadcast live at 8PM to The Common on First Street.

Mill Town Capital and the BSO are launching Tanglewood in the City, a free event designed to allow more people to enjoy a BSO program.

“This is a very similar event that the BSO already holds in the Boston Common,” said Caroline Holland of Mill Town Capital. “It will be broadcast live at the Boston Common and the Pittsfield Common.”

A jumbo screen measuring 15-feet by 27-feet will be erected in front of the pavilion and, if there is rain, the First United Methodist Church will serve as the backup location.

The concert starts at8 PM but Tanglewood in the City: Pittsfield will kick off at 5PM with pre-concert festivities, including performances by the Eagles Community Band Brass Ensemble, performers from the Barrington Stage MTC Choral Group and students from the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

There will also be family-friendly activities offered by local organizations such as the Norman Rockwell Museum, Hancock Shaker Village, Berkshire Music School, and the Pittsfield YMCA. The Boston Symphony Association of Volunteers will also host an Instrument Playground following the Eagle Brass Band performance.

Casual summer fare will be available from local on-site food vendors including Main Street Hospitality, Barrington Brewery, SoCo Creamery, and Mad Jack’s BBQ.
